It’s you’re responsibility to make sure you get the best groomsmen gifts for your wedding party. You don’t want to get something cheap and forgettable. You want to get watches that will be a favorite of the guys who were there for your on your special day.
The watches should be something that they will love, that they will wear and will remind them, you and everyone else about your wedding. The type of gift you give (in this case the type of watch you give your groomsman) makes a statement about you, and by proxy your bride. So. while you don’t have to spend Rolex money, you also shouldn’t get something cheap.
Not all groomsmen are alike. But you shouldn’t try and pick out different styles of watches. This can engender jealously. One guy might think the other guy got a better watch–even if you spend the same on them. No, it’s not a good idea to get a bunch of different watches. What you should do is get the same watch, the exact same, for each guy. If you like, you can get the back engraved with some special message commemorating the event.
I would strongly advise against choosing any sort of gimmick watch. You shouldn’t look for a groomsman set or anything similar. Just pick out a watch and buy x number of them.
Budget Yourself: You Don’t Need To Be A Millionaire To Get Nice Groomsmen Watches
A wedding is a big expense. But it’s also a once in a lifetime event (if we’re being optimistic) so it’s not something you should try and scrimp on. That said, the groom is often not on the hook for most of the wedding expenses, that’s the brides family. The watches that are going to be listed here will fall under a few different budgets. There are some nice, expensive watches for grooms who have the money. If you’re running a hedge fund, have your own practice, or a lucrative business, then these are great. But, not all guys have the money to shell out for really nice Swiss Omegas or Tags, so there are other options for guys on a budget. Rest assured though, these watches are not cheap, they are excellent watches from really great watch companies that your groomsmen will love.
Pocket Watch or Wrist Watch For Your Groomsmen
There is a bit of a trend towards getting groomsmen pocket watches. Personally, I don’t like the idea. How many men actually wear a pocket watch? What you will be getting them, essentially, is a piece of jewelry that will sit in their drawer for the rest of their life. A wrist watch is something that lots of guys still wear. Even if they are the type to wear jeans and t-shirts most of the time, there are occasions where they will want a nice dress watch. When they have to put on a suit for a dinner party, another wedding where they are a guest.
The most appropriate type of watch for your groomsmen gift are nice dress watches. Rather than get a fancy, knock off Rolex, get a genuine watch. If you have the means to get a set of Rolex Submariners…then by all means get them because those are fantastic watches. They will certainly end up as one of the groomsmen’s most prized possessions.
Below is a list of some really nice dress watches. There are some excellent Swiss brands, as well as other designs. If you like, you can get them engraved once you get them. I listed both leather band designs as well as metal bands. If you do get metal watch bands for your groomsmen, make sure to also give them the extra links (if extra links come with the watch). Some metal watch bracelets will need to be adjusted. They will take their watch to a jewler and for a few dollars (it cost me 2 dollars the last time I had it done) they will have the jeweler remove the links (or add some) so that the band fits well.
Tissot Men’s Silver-Tone Stainless Steel Watch
This is a really sweet watch. Tissot is a famous and well respected watch brand. They make excellent timepieces. I like this for a groomsmen’s gift because it is so classic and refined looking.
It has quartz movement.
A rich embossed leather band.
A 42mm face, which is big but not too big. This works well in any setting. The guys can wear it with suits, or with jeans. A really elegant and all around fantastic watch.
Daniel Wellington Stainless Steel Watch with Brown Band
This is another nice dress watch. Daniel Wellington is a Swiss brand as well. They make watches that are a bit more affordable. But they are still really excellent watches.
This watch has quartz movement, a beautiful leather band, a 40mm wide face.
The color design is really elegant. The brown band is off-set nicely by the white face and the subtle gold tone dial and hands. The clasp and buckle are both stainless steel.
TAG Heuer Aquaracer Blue Dial Watch
These are a bit pricey, but they are also super nice Swiss Luxury watches. TAG Heuer is one of the worlds best watches. It’s as simple as that. They are not as expensive as the super Lux brands such as Brietling, Rolex, Audemars Piguet. But, if you can afford an Audemars Piguet, you probably have a private plane, so expense is not a concern.
The TAG and Omega are like the Porsche…they are beautifully crafted, and exquisite, but not out of the reach of average people. That said, they are not cheap. But if you’re doing well for yourself, and your bride is throwing a super nice wedding reception, and the groomsmen and yourself have really slick designer suits….then these are definitely a perfect watch.
This is a beautiful watch, with a scratch resistant sapphire window, quartz movement, and a stainless steel band and buckle. It also has a chronograph and three sub-dials on the face. A really well designed, simple and uncluttered face.
It has a 45mm case.
Victorinox Men’s Maverick Stainless Steel Bracelet Watch with Blue Dial
These are really sweet watches. They are Swiss Army watches, but not the plain nylon strap design. These are beautiful stainless steel models. They have a beautiful blue dial face, and stainless steel design that is poplar with Swiss brands such as Omega and Tag. I have a Swiss Army watch and they are very nice watches. They are respectable, without being too in-your face flashy. Guys who are not big into jewellery will like the Swiss Army name, and their girlfriends or wives will love that they have a super cool and fashionable watch that they can wear when they take them out for dinner.
Kenneth Cole New York Men’s Iconic Chronograph Black Leather Strap Dress Watch
This watch has a really cool retro look. It’s got Japanese Quartz movement, and a mineral crystal window. The face is nice and clean, with white and black features. The face is 42 mm wide, which is a nice size. Some guys don’t want a really big face watch, so it’s safest to get a watch in the low to mid 40s like the watches listed on this page. The band is an impressive, ribbed, pig skin leather. All thins said, if you want a unique watch, without going the “gimick” route, then this elegant designer watch from Kenneth Cole is a sure fire winner. They will love it because its deginatly unlike any watch they own, but its not too far out there on the design spectrum to be too odd to actually wear.
