Are Watches Still Fashionable?

It’s been a long time since I’ve updated this blog. And I decided that the best topic to cover as the return post would be on the question of fashion and style.

Because, if you were to read some blogs and listen to some commentators, you’d think watches have gone out of style.

However, as anyone who is into fashion knows, that’s certainly not the case. There are plenty of reasons to still own a nice watch.

But what I wanted to do was cover some of the reasons why watches are still in style. Why they won’t go out of style. And also some reasons why you would want a watch for a number of social situation and also workplace circumstance.

Will Watches Ever Go Out of Style?

So, let’s discuss the big question first. Will watches ever go out of style.

First, no. It’s not something to be worried about. Watches are more than functional; they are stylish accessories for many people.

But, even if you were to listen to the argument that people don’t need watches anymore because they have cell phones, that’s a poor argument.

Many lines of work and careers do not allow for someone to carry around their phone and keep checking it. In fact, it can be dangerous to keep taking out a phone.

Most outdoor work, for instance, have people who wear watches. Police, Fire Department, Military, Construction workers, Doctors and Medical Staff (nurses are famous advocates for wearing watches).

And of course, people heading out to basic training want to get watches. It’s one of the main gear items on their go list.

If you’re working on a building project, it can be dangerous to take your phone out of your pocket.

Not only that, but in professional business settings it’s a better look to have a watch instead of taking your phone out to constantly check out your phone.

Watches are not just functional, though there are many reasons to use them for functions.

But more than that, watches are stylish. Large and well made watches such as Rolex, Swiss made watches, and other well made designs such as Seiko.

Watches are always fashionable, and have been that way since they were created.

In fact, watches are -along with jewelry—one of the few items you can buy that don’t’ lose value.

Rolex and other well made swiss watches are often sold on the secondary market for high prices.

You can even see watches up for sale at auctions.

“Never Trust a Man Who Doesn’t Wear a Watch”

There’s a famous saying that has been going around that you should never trust a man who doesn’t wear a watch.

While that’s a bit facetious, there is some sentiment behind it. The idea is that a watch is something that men and women who are responsible own.

A watch is a sign that the person who wears the watch is interested in keeping track of the time, making sure that they will be on time for their appointments.

Also, it’s a sign that they are a professional and take an interest in a cultured and professional lifestyle.

Watches, basically put, show that you’re someone who is someone who thinks about things and is responsible.

There’s a reason why military people love watches. And it’s not because they are fashionable. It’s because military people (like Jocko) are very responsible people.

Judge a Man By His Watch?

It might seem like it’s a bit shallow, but in reality many people do judge people on things that are superficial. And watches are oftentimes a big status symbol.

It doesn’t have to be a fancy Rolex or Patek. But any type of watch can show that you’re someone who has things to be responsible for.

Look at famous Delta Force guys like Pat Mac, or Seal Team guys like Jocko. They were Casio’s or other military watches.

And certainly in business, watches are seen as signs that the person is someone who respects themselves and also respects their co-workers and colleagues time.

Apple Watches vs “Real Watches”

Of course apple watches are watches. Any smart watch is fulfilling the same requirement that a classic watch does, only they are designed to also transmit data and other non-watch actions.

They are popular with tech bros, and a lot of millennials who want to have a watch but didn’t grow up with classic watches.

Of course, if you’re interviewing at an Investment Bank, working as a construction project manager, or in some other field where it’s not hip to be a huge fanboy of Apple, then smart watches in general are not a good idea.

When Do You Need a Watch?

Well, for practical reasons. To tell time, obviously. But also there are performance issues.

If you’re in a position to want a stopwatch, a countdown watch, or chrono, then you’re going to enjoy those functions.

But what I’d suggest is that it’s a good idea to have one for:
